According to MPF Ratings, Hong Kong’s Mandatory Provident Fund posted a +5.67% return in H1 2026, marking the sixth-best first-half performance since the scheme’s inception in December 2000.

Despite a -1.45% loss in June, Q2 overall returns still reached +7.81%, the strongest quarterly result since 2020.

Asian equity funds continued to lead the market, delivering a +27.93% return in H1 — the best first-half performance on record — and +27.17% in Q2, the second-best quarterly result ever.

Total MPF investment gains for H1 reached HK$88.8 billion, translating to approximately HK$18,500 in per-capita gains for the scheme’s ~4.8 million members.

MPF Ratings noted that the HK$88.8 billion in H1 investment gains represents the second-largest first-half MPF investment income on record, underscoring steady growth in workers’ retirement reserves.
