MPF Ratings data shows Hong Kong’s Mandatory Provident Fund returned 5.67% in the first half of 2026 — the sixth-best H1 performance since the system was established in December 2000. Although June posted a -1.45% loss, Q2 returns reached 7.81%, the best quarterly performance since 2020.
Investment gains for H1 2026 totaled HK$88.8 billion, equivalent to an average profit of HK$18,500 per MPF member. Asian equity funds delivered the strongest performance, returning 27.93% — the best first-half on record — driven by robust gains in Korean and Taiwanese technology stocks.
As of end-June, total MPF assets grew to approximately HK$1.67 trillion, with average account balance per member reaching HK$347,500.
