MPF Reform: Public Trustee Plus Easier Withdrawals

2011-07-16

What do the reform calls demand?

A Sing Pao editorial urges reform: the MPFA should force intermediaries to disclose admin-fee details and set fair levels, even create a non-profit public intermediary to save members fees; plus relax withdrawal rules so critical illness, home purchases or children’s overseas study unlock part of savings early. Over-control breeds resentment.

What can members do before reform?

No public trustee yet — use Employee Choice meanwhile; no relaxed withdrawals yet — review regularly instead of waiting at a loss. Make your current mix the cheapest and fittest; don’t bet everything on reform.
