According to the latest market report from MPF Ratings, the overall MPF returned +6.35% in April 2026, delivering significant gains to member accounts.

April Key Data:

  • Overall MPF Return: +6.35%
  • Average Member Gain: ~HK$19,500
  • Best Performing Fund Category: Equity Funds (especially Asia & HK Equities)
  • Total Assets: Surpassed HK$1.63 trillion, a new record high

The strong April rally was primarily driven by global and Hong Kong equity markets. The Hang Seng Tech Index surged significantly during the period, while US technology stocks also rebounded, providing a favorable environment for MPF equity funds.

MPF Ratings’ View:

MPF Ratings notes that April’s performance demonstrates the effectiveness of MPF as a long-term retirement investment vehicle. Members are advised to maintain disciplined investment strategies and avoid frequently switching funds due to short-term market fluctuations. For younger members, the higher-risk/higher-return profile of equity funds remains suitable for long-term deployment; members approaching retirement may consider moderate allocation to bond or conservative funds to lock in gains.

Looking ahead to May and the second half of the year, MPF Ratings maintains a cautiously optimistic outlook, recommending regular portfolio reviews and monitoring global macroeconomic developments that may impact MPF investment returns.
