MPF Intermediaries Face New Laws, E-Transfer Platform

2011-04-05

What’s new in intermediary regulation?

The Financial Services Bureau and MPFA propose legislating intermediary sales conduct and building an e-platform for benefit transfers, plus stronger deterrence against employer arrears; a bill is targeted this year, passage next year. Today only a conduct code applies administratively; the HKMA, OCI and SFC would gain disciplinary powers.

What does it mean for workers?

Tighter rules mean fewer victims, but stay sharp yourself. Whichever channel you use, independently compare fund facts before deciding — never rely on a salesperson’s pitch alone.
