Most MPF funds charge by “deducting from fund assets”: management and admin expenses come straight out of the fund’s asset value, so fees are already reflected in the unit price. Example: 10,000 units, HK$100,000 in assets, HK$2,000 in expenses — net assets become HK$98,000 and the unit price HK$9.80. A few schemes (mainly Conservative Funds) use “deducting fund units”, debiting equivalent units from member accounts instead, leaving the unit price untouched.
Fees are calculated at fund level, so trustees cannot precisely attribute costs to individual accounts and no statement shows each member’s share; the upside is the unit price already reflects all fees.
