In June 2011 the government unveiled details of the HK$6,000 handout — Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 or above qualify, with registration opening 28 August 2011 and banks opening specially that day to take registrations.
Permanent residents turning 18 on or before 31 March 2012. Under the “HK$6,000 Scheme”, eligible residents register through banks or Hongkong Post; payment goes to a designated bank account or by cheque.
Through banks or post offices from 28 August. Banks will open specially on Sunday 28 August for registrations, and forms can be submitted at banks or post offices during office hours afterwards. Payouts go out in batches — no need to queue on day one.
Beware fake websites and calls. The government reminds the public that registration never collects personal data by phone or email — watch for scams. Call the government hotline with questions.
