Equity MPFs gain 12.7% in a year; ten-year annualised return of 5.7% leads the pack

On mpf fund performance: the MPFA’s latest Statistical Digest shows equity MPFs returned 12.7% annualised over the twelve months to 31 March this year — widening from 10.2% in last year’s fourth quarter. Since December 2000, all MPFs returned 5.4% in total, with equity MPFs contributing most at 5.7% over ten years; mixed-asset and bond MPFs gained 4.9% and 3.9% respectively over the decade.

Up 12.7% in a year and 5.7% annualised over ten years. The MPF equity fund led all categories over the decade.

How are MPF assets allocated?

67% in equities; Hong Kong tops equity MPFs at 36%. As of last year-end, MPF asset allocation was 67% equity MPFs, 22% debt securities and 11% deposits and cash. Within equity MPFs, 36% sat in Hong Kong — the top region; 10% in Asia, with Europe and North America at just 9% and 8%. Aggregate MPF net asset values rose from HK$317.31 billion a year ago to HK$378.28 billion at end-March 2011.
