A 2 October 2010 iMoney column explained the law’s early-withdrawal grounds before 65: besides permanent departure and death, small balances qualify. Its example, Mrs Chan — jobless six or seven years, minding grandchildren, unlikely to work again, with a small balance — could claim early instead of waiting till 65.
Small balance, no fresh contributions for a long spell, no longer employed — qualifiers can take it all at once. Ask the trustee or the MPFA hotline 2918 0102 if unsure.
Don’t assume nothing moves before 65 — the law has specific early grounds; but don’t scheme if you don’t qualify. Small pots need growing too — start at MPF fund comparison.
