Travel Insurance You Never Imagined: Altitude Sickness, Diving, Even Honeymoon Pregnancy

Summer is peak travel season, and savvy travellers match cover to their route. Beyond standard accidental death/disability, medical, baggage loss and emergency rescue, niche products cover things you’d never expect: altitude sickness, high-risk sports like diving — even honeymoon pregnancy.

Three niche travel covers

ProductCoversCost
Altitude sicknessTibet, Qinghai, Yunnan, Guizhou, Inner Mongolia: death, disability and medical costs from altitude sickness (15-day term)RMB 50/100 premium, up to RMB 100,000/200,000 cover
High-risk sportsDiving, paragliding, expeditions, bungee jumping, stunt shows (excluded as standard)Optional add-on, your choice
Honeymoon pregnancyHoneymoon cancelled due to pregnancy; lost prepaid travel costs (pregnancy must occur after policy inception, before travel)Proportional payout on lost costs (shopping and supplies excluded)

Watch the fine print

  • High-risk sports have conditions: professional sports, prize-money events, or self-devised unapproved activities are generally excluded
  • “Honeymoon” is strictly defined: one product defines it as joint travel outside the home city within a year of marriage registration
  • Schengen is special: Schengen travel needs €30,000+ medical cover; some states inspect the original policy

Travel insurance is no longer one-size-fits-all. Match the policy to your route — that’s the smart traveller’s move. Cold regions have frostbite products, Africa has epidemic and wildlife-injury cover — there’s one for every itinerary.
