Teresa Carpio performing arts school ordered to pay HK$1,646 in MPF arrears

Teresa Carpio International Performing Arts Academy Limited, whose director is singer Teresa Carpio, was taken to the Small Claims Tribunal by the MPFA on behalf of an employee over unpaid MPF contributions, and was yesterday ordered to pay HK$1,646.26 to the MPFA. The authority said it would credit the sum to the employee’s MPF account as soon as it is received.

What happens when employers default on MPF contributions?

The MPFA can pursue defaulting employers through the courts on employees’ behalf, and arrears — plus surcharges — must ultimately be paid back into employees’ accounts in full. The Carpio case was not isolated: on the same day the MPFA acted for 32 other employees, recovering over HK$70,000 in arrears and surcharges from five employers.
