Summer jobs: 60 days of work means MPF enrolment

2011-08-15

Summer is prime time for students to earn extra cash. The MPFA reminds employers: if a summer worker is employed for 60 days or more, you must enrol them in an MPF scheme and contribute; shorter stints (except casual catering and construction workers) are exempt.

What are employers’ duties?

Employers must enrol staff within the first 60 days of employment. Even summer workers qualify if they meet the employment-period threshold.

What should students watch for?

Students should know their MPF rights and keep records like contracts and pay slips. Questions about contributions? Call the MPFA hotline on 2918 0102.
