Restaurant employer ordered to pay over $300,000 in MPF arrears

The MPFA won a District Court order today (30 March): Liu Yuk Ching, former operator of Sum Kee Restaurant, must pay the MPFA $307,175 for defaulting on MPF contributions for six employees.

What does the $300,000 cover?

The sum covers the employees’ unpaid MPF contributions plus surcharges calculated under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance. The MPFA will credit the money to the employees’ MPF accounts as soon as it is received. The court also ordered the respondent to pay $930 in filing costs.
