How does the MPFA recover MPF default contributions from employers?

When employers default on MPF contributions, the MPFA recovers the arrears and surcharges on behalf of affected employees through civil action. In September 2011, the MPFA obtained a District Court judgment ordering Sing Fai Computer Engineering, which had defaulted on contributions for 69 employees, to pay over HK$271,000. It also filed claims in the Small Claims Tribunal on behalf of 27 employees against 9 employers, recovering about HK$133,000 in MPF default contributions and surcharges.

The 9 employers included Kwan Lau (Group), World Flag Development, Always Online Marketing, Integrity In Earth (trading as Exult), Sik Dak Lok Foods, Leung Hon Wah (trading as Tin Hang International Development), Hang Lee Tat (Asia), Bright Spot Technology and San Wing Machinery Tools, with payments ranging from HK$320 to nearly HK$33,000.
