MPFA Launches Its MPF Fund Fees Comparison Platform

The MPFA has launched an MPF fee comparison platform — workers no longer need to dig through sales documents for charges; a few clicks compare fund costs side by side. The platform is seen as a warm-up tool ahead of semi-portability.

What does the platform do?

It centralises every fund’s fee data — cheap versus pricey at a glance. The platform collects fee information for funds across MPF schemes, including key figures like fund expense ratios. Workers can filter and compare charges across funds in one place — no more hunting through paperwork.

Why launch it now?

To pave the way for employee choice, so workers can vote with their feet. Once the employee choice arrangement lands, workers will pick their own trustees and funds — and fees will be a top consideration. Launching the comparison platform now gets workers into the habit of shopping around before choice arrives.

What should users watch for?

Fees are not the only criterion — read them with returns and risk. Cheap is not always good; pricey is not always bad. Compare within the same fund category (never an equity fund against a conservative fund), and weigh investment objectives, risk levels and track records alongside. Fees matter — but they are not everything.
