Mercer data shows MPF recorded $1.82 billion of net inflows in September 2010. Hong Kong equity funds rose 12% on average over the month, while Asian equity funds surged 20% — the best-performing category.
Total MPF assets reached $365.4 billion by end-September 2010, up 17.5% year on year. From the November 2008 trough, assets have rebounded 72%.
Employer and employee contributions added $39 billion; net investment returns added $33 billion. Nearly half of the year’s growth came from investment returns — showing how much the market rebound helped workers’ retirement savings.
Asian equity funds gained 20% over the year, Hong Kong equity funds 12%. Strong equity markets lifted equity funds — but members should remember their volatility and weigh their own risk tolerance first.
