This article is a rewrite of a report from May 2012.
The MPFA reminded employers, employees and the self-employed: from 1 June 2012, the MPF mandatory contribution cap would rise from HK$1,000 to HK$1,250 a month. Legislative Council had earlier approved raising the maximum relevant income level from HK$20,000 to HK$25,000 a month.
Employees with monthly relevant income above HK$20,000 (and their employers) and the self-employed had to adjust; those at HK$20,000 or below saw no change. In other words, only earners above HK$20,000 a month were touched.
Employees were urged to verify that employer contributions for periods starting on or after 1 June were correct. The MPFA specifically called on workers to watch their payslips, and reminded employers to contribute at the new maximum relevant income level.
This was the official-announcement take on the same revision covered in fuller companion pieces — the simplest possible angle: effective 1 June, check your payslip.
