Thomson Reuters’ Lipper has announced the Lipper Fund Awards Hong Kong 2011: Franklin Templeton took best bond fund group, Value Partners best equity fund group; in the MPF categories, Fidelity retained best equity MPF group and Sun Life Financial won best mixed-asset MPF group.
Who won the most?
Franklin Advisors and Templeton Asset Management together collected 10 fund-category awards — the most. Schroders was second with 7; BlackRock and Henderson Management took 5 each. In MPF, Fidelity added 10 category awards to its group title; First State Investments won 5 categories.
How are winners chosen?
Sustained excellence in risk-adjusted returns within each category. Lipper’s Asia research director Fung Chi-yuen said winners consistently delivered outstanding risk-adjusted performance against peers.
How did the market do last year?
Hong Kong-authorised funds grew 84% last year; the MPF averaged 7.2% growth. Of the new funds, 51% were equity, 22% bond and 17% mixed-asset.
