Dragon Boat Holiday Travel? Buy Travel Insurance — and Know the Two Policy Types

With the Dragon Boat mini-holiday approaching, many families are planning trips, and travel insurance is essential pre-departure prep. But few realise travel cover comes in two distinct types — buy the wrong one, or assume you’re covered when you’re not, and you may discover the gap only when disaster strikes.

Two policies protecting different people

PolicyPolicyholder/beneficiaryCovers
Travel-agency liability insuranceThe agency (policyholder, insured and beneficiary are all the agency)Only traveller losses caused by the agency’s negligence or fault
Travel accident insuranceThe travellerPersonal injury to the tourist from accidents during the trip

The key misunderstanding: the agency’s liability policy on a group tour does not protect you personally. If you hurt yourself or fall ill, liability cover pays nothing.

What should self-drivers add?

Beyond basic travel accident cover, self-driving travellers should consider:

  • Vehicle damage: flying stones can crack windscreens — standalone glass-breakage cover is worth a look
  • Medical add-on: accidental medical riders are the most-claimed; hospital bills are the commonest cost
  • Emergency rescue: vital if heading somewhere remote

Holidays are for fun, not for gambling. Ten minutes reading the policy wording before departure is what turns a purchase into real protection.
