On 13 March 2011, 100+ people marched to government headquarters demanding a universal retirement protection scheme to tackle elderly poverty from population ageing. The Alliance for Universal Pension said the Budget spent HK$40 billion on handouts while dodging the ageing problem.

What was the demand?

HK$50 billion set aside as seed money for universal retirement protection. The alliance noted John Tsang talked repeatedly about ageing without offering solutions. The demand was repeated at the 200-strong march on 19 March.
